Options (Tools menu)

Select Options in the Tools Menu to edit the general software settings. Most of the settings displayed in this window can also be modified directly by editing the The System Initialization File (petrovr.ini).

The following general Settings are available in the General tab:

  • Show Start Up dialog: Display the Start Up dialog when PetroVR starts. (See Navigating PetroVR).
  • Confirm Globals change: Display a confirmation dialog if the current Globals file location is different from the Globals file location embedded in the Plan or Econ model. See Globals.
  • Simplify FML expressions: Enable automatic correction of FML expressions using the FML Expression Simplifier.
  • Show Well Maps: Enable/disable the Map Tab in the Reservoir Node.
  • Use Thermal Capabilities: Enable Thermal features. See Thermal Project Support.
  • Use Decision Tree: Enable the Decision Tree tool in the Toolbar.
  • Date format: Choose a default format for displaying all date variables on the screen.
  • Toolbar icons: Choose a size for displaying the icons in the Toolbar.
  • Display no more than <n> validation messages: Set a limit to the number of Validation Messages to be shown in the various Status tabs.

Auto-save settings:

  • Enable auto-save every <n> minutes: Set automatic saving of the PetroVR Plan model and any other PetroVR tool currently in use (except Globals; see PetroVR Files).

Use the Fonts pane to select the fonts for each type of text on the screen. Please note that text may be cropped if larger fonts are selected. This setting will affect every piece of text throughout the interface, except for labels in the Schedule timeline; to modify these, see Commands available (Inputs tab).

In the Files & Directories tab, double-click a row to edit the default location of a variety of components:

  • Projects: Default folder for new projects.
  • Globals: Default Globals file.
  • Images: Default folder for facility images.
  • Catalogs: Location of Catalogs.
  • Signatures: Location of Model Signatures files.
  • default.xls / default.xlsx: Location of the default worksheet for Excel Reports.
  • UserDataDirectory: User-created files (projects, scenarios, etc.).
  • AppDataDirectory: System-created files, common to all users (petrovr.ini, petrovr.xla, language settings files, units.ccr, etc.).
  • UserAppDataDirectory: User-specific system-created files (guiSettings.obj, recovery.log, error.log).
  • Updates: Updates provided by the last installed update pack; see Working with Updates.

See further in PetroVR Files. The following commands are available:

  • Use Default Data Directories: Restore UserDataDirectory, AppDataDirectory and UserAppDataDirectory to the Windows predefined locations.
  • Change locationChange location: Choose a new location for the selected item in the list (same as double-clicking).
  • Copy locationCopy location: Copy the selected location to the clipboard.
  • Paste locationPaste location: Paste copied location.

You need to Apply file location changes before closing the Tools menu.

PetroVR folders always have the same name (/updates, /PetroVR Projects, etc.) If you copy one location onto another PetroVR will automatically create a sub-folder with the proper name. For example, if you copy the /PetroVR Projects folder onto /updates, the resulting path will be .../updates/PetroVR Projects.

The User Settings tab contains data related to web services.

  • Email: Your PetroVR Help Desk user. This will also be used by PetroVR to decide which update pack to download based on your email domain. See Working with Updates.
  • In the PetroVR Web Server pane enter the URL, Port number and login information for publishing results that you wish to make through a web browser (see Publishing PetroVR Projects). These details are company-specific - contact your company's IT department if you do not already have them.
  • Activate the PlanningSpace Link option to use a dynamic link between a PetroVR Econ module and a PlanningSpace Modules via a web service, and to enable Publishing PetroVR Projects to Dataflow. Enter the URL, Port number and login details, or click on Use Windows Credentials to log in using your Windows user information.

Use the Check connection button to test the connection and login details of both options.
